CAP International denounces OHCHR working group call to decriminalise pimping

Our coalition is appalled by the recent position paper published by the Working Group on discrimination against women and girls of the OHCHR, the content of which raises serious questions in terms of objectivity, rigor and credibility.

In its call to decriminalise “sex work” and thus all actors of the prostitution system including pimps and buyers of sexual acts, the working group on women and girls undermines and seriously harms the rights and lives of millions of women and girls being socioeconomically, physically or psychologically coerced to prostitution.

Our coalition made of frontline and survivor-led NGOs witness daily the abuse, the trauma and the violence caused by the prostitution system on its victims -often the women and girls from systemically discriminated groups- and its larger impact on male sexual entitlement to women.
