Global leaders and activists gather for the 2nd International Abolitionist Week
30 June 202230 member organisations of the Coalition for the Abolition of Prostitution from 25 countries reunited this June 2022 for the 2nd International Abolitionist Week in Spain. The meeting was intended at exchanging experiences and good practices, but also at supporting the Abolitionist momentum in the country.

After the first convening in Paris in December 2019, the Coalition met for the first time in person following the global pandemic of COVID-19. The meeting took place at the facilities of La Ciba, in the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona), making it the abolitionist capital of the world during the week. La Ciba is a feminist resource center directed by Maribel Cardenas, where the headquarters of the International Abolitionist school is located. The school is a project of Feminicidio.net, one of the two CAP members of CAP International in Spain with the Comisión para la investigación de Malos Tratos a Mujeres.
The mayor of the city Nuria Parlon, who supported the Abolitionist Week, is also the coordinator of the Network of Trafficking-Free Municipalities, an alliance of municipalities committed to the fight against sexual exploitation in Spain. Her work and that of the municipal workers have placed Santa Coloma de Gramenet as one of the abolitionist references in Spain, with which CAP has built a strong alliance, reinforced with the joint organisation of the International Abolitionist Week.
During the Week, the Coalition also held its annual General Assembly, which accounted for the activities carried out by the International Secretariat and the adoption of the narrative and financial reports for the year 2021. A Board meeting was organised after the General Assembly, resulting in the election of Ghada Jabbour as President. Co-founder of the organization KAFA (enough) in Lebanon, Ghada Jabbour today leads the anti-trafficking unit of her organization, which strongly advocates for the abolitionist model and the development and achievement of a more egalitarian world.

To close the II International Abolitionist Week, the Coalition and la Ciba organised a conversation "#AbolicionProstitucionYa, from the local sphere to the global world", with the local abolitionist movement in Catalunya, which was attended by the mayor, Nuria Parlon, socialist deputy of Barcelona Lidia Guinart, Executive Director of CAP International Jonathan Machler and survivor leader Alika Kinan.

The conversation was followed by a political action in solidarity with the local Abolitionist movement, in front of the municipality hall, one day before the International Conference for the Abolition of Prostitution in Spain, which took place the following day in Madrid.
In Spain, it is time to say #AboliciónProstituciónYa!
