Side event at CSW62: Presentation of challenges and review of solutions to combat sex trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation of women and girls
16 March 2018The global prevalence and highly gendered nature of sex trafficking and related forms of sexual exploitation of women and girls pose serious challenges that the international community must address. These challenges, along with a range of potential solutions, are being examined by a high-level international panel composed of state and civil society actors from various jurisdictions. Representatives from Ireland, the Council of Europe, Mexico, Lebanon, and the United States reflect on current risk factors, including precarious migration, rural poverty, and systemic gender inequalities, and present a range of approaches to services, policies, and legislation aimed at combating these egregious violations of the human rights of women and girls.
