July 2016
In July 2016, France was reviewed during CEDAW’s 64th session at the United Nations.
During the session, the French government welcomed France’s new abolitionist law on prostitution.
This joint shadow report signed by a coalition of 72 women’s rights organisations specifically welcomes the new law in relation to the implementation of article 6 of CEDAW, which states that “States Parties shall take all appropriate measures, including legislation, to suppress all forms of traffic in women and exploitation of prostitution of women.”
